Lake Jackson Largemouth Bass Fishing Report
May 2003

May 16, 2003

Water temperature: 75°F

The water is stained up the rivers and clearer toward the dam. Water temperatures are holding around 75 degrees. The lake level has also been up and down a few times this week. It is currently 3 foot low.

Bass this week have been harder to pattern, mainly due to fluctuations in water levels. Some good fish are being caught early in the day around rocky points at the dam. Throw a 1/4 oz double willow white spinnerbait around these points in 4-8 foot of water. Expect lots of spots in the mix. These same areas are holding some hybrids also. Later in the day begin to work the first secondary point going into major creeks. The fish are coming back out toward the summertime holes. These fish can be caught on texas rigged lizards and brushhogs. Use a 1/8 oz weight and fish the bait really slow. The night bite has also been improving and fish are being caught on docks with lights on small crankbaits.

Water temperature: 75°F

The water is stained over most of the lake and it is currently 3 foot below full pool. The water level can go above full one day and well below full the next due to trash washing into the dam (and having to be removed)

The bass are scattered from very shallow to as deep as 25 foot. The shallow bass will eat weightless lizards and flukes worked around any brush or docks that have 2-3 foot of water around them. They will also eat a spinnerbait in chart/white colors early in the mornings if some shad are in the area. During the day you will have to move out on secondary points with texas rigged lizards and big worms. We are having some luck with Zoom Ol Monster worms on the ends of secondary points in main lake coves. Some will also eat a Pop-R late in the afternoons if there is some wind on the water.
