Lake Jackson Largemouth Bass Fishing Report
January 2003

January 20, 2003

Water temperature: 40-45°F

The water in the river is clearing but is still stained and cold 40-43 degrees. The areas near the dam, is clear and 42-45 degrees.

There has actually been a small shad "die off" with the cold temps. Find the schools of shad all over the lake and you will find the fish. The spots are under the dying shad and can be caught on spoons and chart/white bucktail jigs. Bounce these baits off the bottom under the shad schools to catch these fish. Up the lake the fish are eating jigs pitched on rock and wood. Use a 3/4 oz brown/amber jig with a green pumpkin chuck (dip the tips of the chuck in chart dye). Flip next to every dock post you come by. Some days they are out on the edges and other days they are under the docks. Work them thoughly until a pattern developes.
