Lake Jackson Largemouth Bass Fishing Report
April 2003

April 15, 2003

Water temperature: 62-65°F

The water temperature is 62-65 degrees and light stained.

Bass are looking to go on beds in most coves and pockets around the lake. Working a weightless Zoom fluke in watermelon color early and late in the day along seawalls and riprap has been catching a number of fish, mostly spots. Bigger largemouths are bedding, but are hard to find due to water clarity. Work a pearl or chart pepper Zoom big tube on a light texas rig for these fish. Flip the bait to likely bedding areas and let the bait set. Watch your line for any movement and set the hook. There are still some decent spots holding on rocky points down the lake. They are hitting carolina rigged lizards in watermelon and pumpkin seed color.

April 29, 2003

Water temperature: 69-73°F

Water temperatures are 69-73 degrees and climbing. The water is just slightly stained over most of the lake with 1-2 foot visibility.

Bass are in the spawning mode at Jackson and can be caught sight fishing with big Zoom tubes in pearl color or Zoom trickworms in bubblgum or yellow fished right on the beds. Some bass have finished the spawn and are eating topwater plugs like pop-rs and tiny torpedos. The larger females are suspending on cover in 6-10 foot range to recover from the spawn. They are headed out to deeper water. These bass are being caught on #5 Fat free shad crankbaits. Fish brushpiles and tick/bump the tops of the brush and then let the crankbait suspend. The fish are hitting the crankbait on the stop.
